Bangsar Wins inaugural IBA Captain Ball League 2007!!
Bangsar Gospel Centre (BGC) won the inaugural CBL in Real Sports Arena, Klang when they edged Bandar Sunway Gospel Centre (BSGC) in a very closely contested match. With SAGC having won the earlier match to draw level on points, BGC needed only at least a point from their match against BSGC. With BUC having lost their game to Klang (KGC) inthe first game of the competition, BSGC had confirmed their 5th place in the League and had no pressure as compared to their more fancied opponents.
If BGC thought that their opening day victory was an indication that they could walk all over BSGC, they were in for shock when BSGC were just 2 points behind BGC at the break. The neck to neck contest saw BSGC coming back from an early setback to draw level on points with 2 minutes to go before BGC edged ahead slightly due to a lapse of concentration just before the break.
However, an early blitz by BGC with 3 early strikes by their girls pulled them a 8 points ahead. BSGC tried valiantly to fight back but the early second half blitz had done its damage. The closing 3 minutes of the game saw BSGC clawing back the points but alas, the fightback started too little too late. BGC won the game 30-23.
It was a good game overall, that saw both teams playing a very tactical match.
The final results meant that BSGC will now play in the Challenge Round with Klang Jaya (KJGH) who lost marginally to KGH to allow KGH to stay at 3rd place.
A win in the Challenge Round Semi-Finals against KJGH will put BSGC with a chance to win the Challenge Round by playing in the final against the favourite KGH, who will play BUC in the other semi-final playoffs.
In a brief interview with the team manager of bSGC, Joseph, he commented that "...we reckon our chances against KJGH. We are going for a win and I am confident we can cause an upset win against KJGH in the semi-finals if we play the way we did againist BGC today. I am really proud of the girls today who played extremely well. And the guys were great too! A lot of fluidity in the play was carried out to plan and if not for the half-time break, we could have lead BGC and even defeat them... who knows?"
